Was your Black Friday Good? Will your Good Friday be black?

GW Yeatman

Crashing through midnight doors, the hordes mauled the mall. The riot-force stormed the shelves and gathered en masse before bleary-eyed clerks.  Swiping plastic cards, they borrowed money in one electronic swoop.  Finally, the till tilted black-above the line. The red ink gone-maybe.  All in the name of a bargain for the shopper and a buck for the store.

Now, these motives are neither good nor bad.  But somewhere greed must play a part.  If you participated in Occupy Main Street, did your experience seem good?  Did your savings cover your gasoline bill?  Has your blood-pressure returned to normal?  Did Junior get his computer/phone/tractor/robot/slingshot/flashlight?

Did you get your iDoEverthing pad or your ringy-dingy-ap-that-claps phone?  I hope so. Then maybe,  just maybe, your black Friday was bright.

But I’d like to reflect for a moment on another Friday called “Good.”  Should it have been called Black Friday, for on that day the sky turned dark as night?  A blood-spattered man wore the latest Roman style-loin cloth with spiked crown.  Yes, He walked the Via Dolorosa fashion walk-or was that a perp walk?  Then, displayed on His own store rack for your holiday displeasure, he offered the perfect bargain-freedom.  The ultimate gift at the maximum value-free. No greed here.  But, no one stormed His display, well maybe his mother, and a soldier who regretted his role in the matter.  His friends all ran away, grade D students who failed the mid-term.  And the only till tipped and spilled its 30 silver coins-the money-bag bastard had already stolen the rest.

Oh well, that is the wrong season.  But when it does come, honor Him.  Storm his gates. Consider his bargain.  Yes, compare his price and product with others options.  For though the price is free, the upkeep is costly.  Sacrifice may be required on your part.  But it will pay for the gas!
